Lady Tide Need Three Innings to Sink Vikings 19-0

FLINTON – The Curwensville Area High School softball team handled Glendale with ease on Monday in a Moshannon Valley League match-up.  The Lady Tide batted around in each of the first three innings to walk off with a 19-0 win over the Lady Vikings.

The Tide (10-3) used six hits in the first inning, two by Sarah Wriglesworth, and three base on balls to pile up six runs.  Abby Johnson hit safely twice in the second inning as part of four hits and four walks that led to eight runs.  Five runs came home in the third for the visitors on four hits to end the game due to the 15-run rule after three innings.

“The game went according to plan,” said Tide head coach Allen Leigey.  “We had hitters battling out of slight slumps and played well in the field.  The only down side in the game was Tiffany Carter getting hit in the elbow at the plate.”

Carter ‘took one for the team’ in the third inning and had to leave the game.  Fortunately for the Tide, she will have a few days to recuperate before the next game.

Against Glendale, Cheyenne Pentz paced the offense with three singles and three RBI’s on Monday.  Wriglesworth, Taylor Goodman, Johnson and Abby Dugo all hit safely twice.  Wriglesworth, Goodman and Alaina Stiles drove in two runs apiece.

In the circle, pitcher Tierra Shope  struck out two, walked one and gave up just two hits in the three-inning shutout.  Shope and the defense allowed just one runner to reach third base in the contest.

The Lady Tide will travel to Kane on Thursday for the highly anticipated rematch.  The Lady Wolves handed Curwensville its first loss of the season by a 12-11 score in nine innings.
