headline news graphicCLEARFIELD – A man accused of pointing a rifle at his son waived his right to a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge James Hawkins on Wednesday during Centralized Court at the Clearfield County Jail.

Jeffrey L Goss, 52, of West Decatur has been charged with terroristic threats; simple assault; and harassment. His bail was modified from $20,000 monetary to unsecured at the preliminary hearing.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, at approximately 8:18 p.m. April 17, the Clearfield-based state police responded to an altercation at an Old Erie Pike residence in West Decatur. Upon arrival state police met with the victim who related that he’d engaged in an altercation with his father, Goss. More specifically he told state police he’d stepped into the kitchen where a verbal argument ensued between them.

The victim told his father that he planned to “stand his ground.” His father then picked up a .22-caliber rifle and pointed it at the victim with its muzzle raised and the buttstock pressed into his shoulder. The victim related his father told him that “a gunshot will take care of this.”

The victim left the residence and called 911.

When interviewed by state police, Goss admitted to pointing the rifle at his son. He said he was mad at him and wanted to make a point. He also said he’d been drinking alcohol.

Goss was arrested with probable cause for being involved in a domestic violence case. He was transported to the Clearfield County Jail and later arraigned when he became sober.
