Hoffman Has Seven Hits for Clearfield in 9-7 and 11-2 Losses at Huntingdon

HUNTINGDON — Clearfield’s Rachel Hoffman enjoyed a banner afternoon at the plate with seven hits, including two home runs and a double, but Huntingdon exploded for 25 hits to sweep the Mountain League doubleheader, 9-7 and 11-2, in high school girls softball action Tuesday.

The Lady Bison (3-8) built a 5-1 lead in the middle of the fourth inning of the opener, only to see the Lady Bearcats (4-6) take command with seven runs in their next two at-bats.

Hoffman belted two solo homers and two singles while Devynn Ireland had a double, two singles and two RBIs to pace Clearfield.

Megan Vanderburgh and Janelle Wallace added two singles apiece.

Heather Picard took the loss despite striking out eight and walking only one. She gave up 13 hits.

Brionna Mort, Sam Mansberger, Kyra Shea, Shannon Henney and Janay McCrum each had a pair of hits for the Lady Bearcats, who had lost their first five ML games. McCrum drove in three runs and Mansberger chased home two teammates.

Morgan Glover survived the Lady Bison’s 12-hit attack to notch the win, striking out two and walking two.

She also won the nightcap with a six-hitter with three strikeouts and two walks.

Mort led the hosts with three hits, one a triple, and three RBIs. McCrum contributed two hits and two RBIs.

For Clearfield, Wallace doubled home both runs while Hoffman rapped a double and two singles.

Hoffman was the losing pitcher, fanning eight, walking three and allowing 12 hits. 

The Lady Bison, 1-8 in the ML, will play on their home diamond Friday against Bald Eagle Area (6-4), which knocked Central (11-1) out of the unbeaten ranks and out of first place with a 2-1 win Tuesday.
