Wozniak: Grant Aids Community Recycling Efforts

bigstock-News-elegant-small-dotted-wor-25767608HARRISBURG – State Sen. John Wozniak has announced that a $14,926 state grant was awarded to Clearfield County. The grant was awarded to boost recycling efforts and help the local economy.

“This is a plus for the community,” Wozniak said. “Because of local recycling efforts, totaling 2,765.2 tons in 2010, this community will receive funds to help boost its recycling efforts.”

The funds were awarded under the state Department of Environmental Protection’s Recycling Performance Grant Program. This grant is in addition to the funds the state’s DEP allocates to municipalities to establish and maintain recycling programs.

Wozniak added that the Recycling Performance Grant Program makes it possible for local governments to maximize their collection of recyclables, creating the opportunity for new businesses to collect, process and utilize these materials.

Recycling Program Performance Grants are available to all Pennsylvania local governments with recycling programs. The grants awards are based on the total tons recycled and the applicant’s recycling rate.
