SPRING MILLS — Maggie Lynch, one of seven returning starters for Penns Valley, scattered five hits and struck out eight in shutting out Clearfield 7-0 in Mountain League softball action Monday afternoon.
Lucy Kovalick singled and doubled, Megan Vanderburgh singled twice and Rachel Hoffman doubled for the Lady Bison, who slipped to 1-6 in the league and 3-6 overall.
Hoffman pitched three innings and held the Lady Rams hitless while fanning five, but Clearfield trailed 1-0 because of an unearned run.
Heather Picard also worked three innings with three strikeouts and four walks. She gave up only three hits, and five of the six runs off her were unearned.
Madisyn Sharer had two hits, one a double, for the Lady Rams, who are 3-4 in the ML.
Clearfield goes back on the road again Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. ML doubleheader at Huntingdon.
