Borough Hires Part-time Police Officer

CLEARFIELD – At Thursday night’s meeting, the Clearfield Borough Council approved the hiring of Lance Thompson as a part-time police officer.

Thompson told council he’d recently graduated from the Allegheny Police Academy. He currently lives in Punxsutawney with his wife who is a member of the Pennsylvania State Police. Thompson teaches martial arts in Pittsburgh.

“[Being a police officer] was always something I wanted to do. I’m glad it worked out,” said Thompson.

In other business, the borough will pay $2,182.61, as its portion of a camera truck repair bill. The camera truck is shared by Clearfield Borough, Lawrence Township and the Clearfield Municipal Authority.

Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott said the municipal authority and township had already decided to have the camera repaired. She priced a replacement camera and reported it would have been $15,000 before installation.

Councilman James Kling asked if each entity’s usage was being logged. Stott was not aware of any hourly log and thought this was Lawrence Township’s responsibility. Stott agreed there should be a log of the camera’s usage.
