Local ARC Responds to Five House Fires in Two Weeks

Red Cross Relies on Generous Donations to Fulfill Life-saving Mission in Community

DUBOIS – The American Red Cross is committed to its life-saving mission of preventing and alleviating human suffering in the face of emergencies. Every eight minutes, the Red Cross responds to a disaster somewhere in the United States. Here in Cameron, Clearfield, Elk and Jefferson counties, the Red Cross responds to more than 50 fires every year.

However, the past two weeks have been busier than usual for the local Red Cross – with the help of its dedicated volunteer force, the organization has responded to five house fires in the local area. During these responses, Red Cross workers assisted 14 individuals (seven adults and seven children) with their immediate-disaster caused needs of food, clothing, emotional support and shelter.

The Red Cross could not provide its vital services to those in need without the generosity of donors who ensure the organization has the necessary funds to fulfill its mission. The organization is grateful for the continued support of the local community.

“As a non-profit organization that receives no federal funding, we rely on the kindness of our local community to fund our area response efforts,” said Jason Bange, executive director with the local Red Cross. “Individuals can count on their donations to support local programs and services, helping their neighbors in need.”

The PA Heartland Chapter invites local residents to attend one of its upcoming events to learn more about how donated dollars help the community. The Red Cross Benefit Auction will be held April 20 at St. Charles Café in Clearfield, and the First Bash of Summer Carnival will be held from May 29-June 1 at DuBois Memorial Park.
