Helen M. Carter, 95, of Clearfield died April 15, 2013 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born July 16, 1917 in Olean, NY, the daughter of Benjamin and Lillian (Hamilton) Gardner.

She was retired from the Clearfield Hospital as a cook. She was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church. She was a former Sunday school teacher and head teacher in the Kindergarten department. She had belonged to the United Methodist Woman and an afternoon Circle.

She was an earthly saint who was well-known for her generosity. She was a giver of herself and time and everyone loved her and was blessed to have been her friend.

She was a former member of the Clearfield Hospital Woman’s Auxiliary and Third Ward Hose Company Woman’s Auxiliary.

She’s survived by three children, Dolores Jordan and her husband, Bernard of

Woodland, Charles W. Carter and his fiancée, Carole Brown of Curwensville, and Lorna Simcox and her husband, George of Curwensville; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a number of great great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, David W. Carter, whom she married in May of 1939 and who died Nov. 6, 1981; one brother, Walter Gardner and three sisters, Dorothy Hamilton, Marjorie Morrison and Genevieve Collins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc., Clearfield, with the Rev Dr. Joleen A. Willis and Mrs. Carters granddaughter, Pastor Brenda Libreatori co-officiating. Burial will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of the services Friday at the funeral home.

The family suggest memorial contributions be made to West Side United Methodist Church, 317 Nichols St., Clearfield, PA 16830 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
