LT Supers Reject Novey Request to Change Zoning Ordinance

CLEARFIELD – At Monday night’s meeting, the Lawrence Township Supervisors rejected Novey Recycling’s request to change its zoning ordinance to allow for higher scrap piles.

The supervisors rejected Novey Recycling’s requested change, as it was to the zoning ordinance. They said the scrap pile height limit is contained within a separate junkyard ordinance.

“We don’t have any height restrictions under the zoning ordinance,” said Township Solicitor James Naddeo. He added Novey Recycling was also correctly requesting a scrap pile height limit change through the junkyard ordinance.

The supervisors asked Naddeo to inform Novey Recycling’s legal counsel since it had sought the request.

Mike Boal of Novey Recycling was present at the meeting. He said, “I don’t know who all has your junkyard license, but we are industrial, and the adjoining properties are industrial.”

Boal added he hadn’t heard any complaints about Novey Recycling, except from residents who live up on the hill. He said they had never been cited for ordinance violations.

In other business, the supervisors voted to update the township’s fee schedule so far as its junkyards. Naddeo also presented them with a revised junkyard ordinance for review. The supervisors didn’t take any action on the revised junkyard ordinance at the meeting.
