BROOKVILLE — Lucy Kovalick had three hits, two of them doubles, and drove in three runs, Rachel Hoffman also had three safeties and freshman Raeleigh Redden notched a victory in her first varsity start as the Clearfield Area High School softball team downed Brookville 8-4 at Northside Field Tuesday afternoon.
With 13 hits and 14 walks, the Lady Bison (3-4) had opportunities to roll up the score on the Lady Raiders (0-3) but stranded 16 runners.
They were down 2-0 in the second inning, when Victoria Ireland and Heather Picard reached on a single and free pass, respectively, and crossed the plate on wild pitches.
Clearfield untied the non-league game in the fifth inning, with a two-run double by Kovalick highlighting a five-run outburst. Karlie Lewis, another freshman in her first start, and classmate Ireland chipped in with run-scoring singles.
Kovalick chased home Hoffman with the final Lady Bison run in the seventh.
Redden pitched into the sixth frame, striking out seven and walking three. She gave up seven hits and four runs, two of which were unearned.
Picard came on to post a save with two scoreless innings. She fanned three and allowed three hits.
Clearfield will take on undefeated Mountain League front-runner Central at the Bison Sports Complex Thursday.
