CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. has announced the capture of a wanted fugitive.

Shaw identified the fugitive as Walter William Stevens, 67, of Apple Street, Fallentimber. Stevens was added to the Clearfield County Fugitive of the Week list on Nov. 19, 2012.

On Dec. 12, 2011, Trooper Brian Elensky of the Pennsylvania State Police, Clearfield Barracks, filed a criminal complaint, charging Stevens with DUI; opening and closing vehicle doors; windshield obstructions and wipers; driving on roadways laned for traffic; careless driving, reckless driving; and restraint systems.

An affidavit of probable cause filed by Elensky states that on Oct. 30, 2011, while on routine patrol, troopers observed a vehicle crossing over both the white fog line and the yellow centerline. Troopers also observed the vehicle traveling in the oncoming lane of traffic.

Upon making contact with the driver of the vehicle, Elensky detected signs of impairment and requested that Stevens perform field sobriety tests.  After administering the field sobriety tests, Stevens was taken into custody and transported to the Clearfield Hospital for blood testing.

A preliminary hearing was held Jan. 4, 2012 at which time all charges were held to court. On Nov. 8, 2012, Stevens failed to appear for trial and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Shaw stated that on Sunday, officers from Patton Borough Police Department apprehended Stevens at a location in Fallentimber. Stevens is currently lodged in the Cambria County Jail pending transfer to Clearfield County.

Shaw thanked the Patton Borough Police Department and Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance with this case.
