In addition, local businesses, civic/non-profit organizations, schools and church groups are welcome to participate in the event. Fresh produce, crafts and plenty of berry-inspired recipes will be available for sale. The CRC will be selling lunch and businesses will be open with sidewalk sales.
Main Street Manager Kellie Swales said, “The community loved the CRC’s Fall Festival, and we wanted to offer something similar but fitting for the summer. By keeping the festival in downtown, it opens the opportunity for our businesses to participate and holds onto that concept of bringing people to downtown for shopping and activities.
“We want to bring as much value as we can to our merchants while engaging the community as much as possible. We hope the community will welcome this event as much as they did the Fall Festival.”
Vendor applications are open through May 31.
In addition to the new summer festival, the CRC will host its fourth annual “Anything that Floats” Boat Regatta, sponsored by Penn State DuBois Engineering, on June 1. The regatta will be at 1 p.m. at the river by Lower Witmer Park. This man-made boat race includes cash prizes of up to $150 and a race across the Susquehanna River and back.
Participants cannot use a kayak, canoe or peddle boat. However, they can use a paddle to row. Teams are limited to up to four people per vessel, and there will be a lifeguard on-hand at the event. The CRC welcomes boy scouts, girl scouts, businesses, friends, family, sports teams and more to participate.
Swales said, “The CRC hopes to see an increase of boats this year and has taken measures to lower the registration fee.” She said this year it’s only $20 per boat in hopes of getting more teams.
Unfortunately, Swales said it could be the last year for the regatta if the CRC doesn’t get enough participation. She said, “This event is fun, unique and utilizes the river and park, which are both huge assets to Clearfield.”
