100 Gallons of Fuel Spilled in I-80 Accident

GRAHAM TOWNSHIP – A tractor-trailer’s fuel tank ruptured and spilled 100 gallons of diesel fuel after an accident Tuesday on Interstate 80 at mile-marker 127.4 eastbound in Graham Township, reported the Clearfield-based state police.

George R. Durden, 47, of Denton, MD was traveling in the left-hand lane when he lost control of his tractor-trailer. It traveled northbound and exited the roadway, traveling down an embankment and impacting a drainage ditch.

The Durden tractor-trailer continued traveling through a wooded area and impacted several trees before coming to a final rest partially on its left side. It traveled approximately 500 feet from the roadway to reach this final position. The tractor-trailer sustained disabling damage.

Durden was transported to the Clearfield Hospital with minor injuries. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. Durden was cited as a result of the accident investigation.

Hazmat cleanup and towing services assisted at the scene.
