CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Inc. (CCAAA), along with three local mayors, participated in the National Mayors for Meals Day as a part of their March For Meals campaign.

March For Meals is a national campaign, organized by the Meals On Wheels Association of America. It is designed to raise awareness about senior hunger and to encourage communities to do their part.

This year three local mayors participated and hand-delivered meals and visited consumers throughout Clearfield County.  Participating officials included Mayor James Schell of Clearfield, Mayor Holly Komonczi of Curwensville and Mayor Gary Gilbert of DuBois.  They joined more than 1,300 other government officials throughout the nation who took part in this national program.

“This is our fifth year participating in the Mayors for Meals Day program.  We hope to continue to raise awareness of this essential program and encourage people of Clearfield County to support the Meals on Wheels & More Program by participating in our fundraising efforts.  Their support is vital to help meet the needs of older citizens throughout our county,” said Rikki Ross, director of Planning & Marketing for CCAAA.

She added, “The Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging would like to thank all the mayors for their participation in this great event. The meals recipients truly enjoyed the opportunity to meet and visit the mayors.”

In Clearfield County, the Meals on Wheels and More program serves nearly 150,000 meals to more than 1,000 consumers per year.  In addition, another 30,500 meals per year are served at various senior centers in the county.
