HARRISBURG – Agents from the Attorney General’s Child Predator Unit have arrested a Centre County man, accused of using Internet file-sharing programs to download, share and possess child pornography. Attorney General Kathleen G. Kane identified the defendant as Ian Zachary Shulman, 19, 0506 Beaver Hall, University Park, Centre County.
“The proliferation of child pornography on the Internet is frightening,” Kane said. “My office is dedicated to investigating and prosecuting anyone that produces, disseminates or stores child pornography online.”
Shulman is charged with 53 counts of sexual abuse of children, possessing child pornography and criminal use of a communication facility. All are third degree felonies, each punishable by up to seven years in prison and $15,000 in fines. This arrest was the culmination of a two month investigation by the Child Predator Unit.
Shulman surrendered on March 28, 2013 in Centre County to agents from the Child Predator Unit. Magisterial District Judge Carmine Prestia arraigned Shulman and bail was set at $150,000 unsecured. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. April 3 at Centre County’s Central Court.
Agents executed a search warrant at Shulman’s residence and seized items, which will be analyzed by the Attorney General’s Computer Forensics Unit as part of an ongoing investigation into the trafficking of child pornography.
Shulman will be prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Christopher Jones of the Attorney General’s Child Predator Unit.
