Obituary Notice: William J. Cromshaw Sr.

William J. Cromshaw Sr., 96, of Clearfield died Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, where he’d stayed since 2008.

Born Feb. 21, 1917 in Allport, he was the son of the late Stephen and Veronica Kondisko Cromshaw.

He was formerly married to Anita Lowry in Cleveland, OH in 1948.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William J. II and a grandson, William J. II, a sister, Dorothy Watro and two brothers, Lawrence and Robert.

He’s survived by one grandchild, Jennifer Lee of San Francisco, CA and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Mr. Cromshaw was a member of the St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Morrisdale.

He was a prominent building contractor in the area. In addition to many private residences, he counted among his major accomplishments the building of the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Philipsburg, St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Morrisdale and the Geisinger Medical Center, Philipsburg.

He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was a World War II veteran, taking part in the Normandy invasion in June of 1944 while serving in the U.S. Army with the 4th Infantry Division.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel of the Strange & Weaver Funeral Service, Morrisdale, with the Deacon Dennis Socash officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
