James Smith, 73, of Philipsburg died Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Ridgeview Elder Care Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Curwensville.
He was the son of the late Frederick and Mary (Boggan) Smith, born Feb. 23, 1940 in Munson.
He married the former Thelma L. Woods on Feb. 13, 1962 in Philipsburg. She preceded him in death Oct. 1, 2009.
He was a Protestant by faith.
Mr. Smith was an U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of the American Legion, John Ashley Dennis Post #437 in Philipsburg. He was also formerly a member of the Philipsburg Honor Guard. He was employed as a truck driver until his retirement.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by two daughters, Etta J. Smith and her companion, Bob Kazlaski of Howard and Sherry Hubler and her husband, Herb of West Decatur; three grandchildren, James Bryan and his wife, Skye of Osceola Mills, Leann Bumbarger and her companion, Eric Johnston of West Decatur and Matthew J. Kelce of DuBois; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. Timothy D. Richmond officiating. Burial will be at the Grandview Cemetery in Morrisdale.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Monday the funeral home.
Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by members of the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.
