- Minor injuries were reported after a single-vehicle accident that occurred Thursday on state Route 970 in Decatur Township. Shirley F. Ropchock, 73, of Morrisdale was traveling northbound and negotiating a right-hand curve in the roadway when she lost control of her vehicle due to slippery road conditions. Her vehicle exited the west berm over an embankment, which caused it to overturn onto its driver’s side. There, it impacted a tree stump and came to a rest on its side. Ropchock and her four passengers were wearing their seatbelts and in the appropriate child seats. All were transported to the Clearfield Hospital for minor injuries. Ropchock sustained severe damage to the driver’s side and was towed from the scene.
- An incident of burglary occurred sometime between March 10 and Wednesday on Bobs Road in Bigler Township. Someone entered a Madera man’s residence by forcing open his back door. Once inside they removed approximately 13 pounds worth of silver and silver-plated silverware and two chain necklaces. Then, they fled the area in a black sedan. The total loss is estimated at $2,100. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Clearfield-based state police at 814-857-3800.
- No injuries were reported after a single-vehicle accident Thursday on Brewery Road in Bigler Township. Logan C. Viard, 20, of Houtzdale was negotiating a right-hand curve when he lost control of his vehicle on the snow-covered roadway. His vehicle exited the left side and struck an embankment. After impact it overturned onto its roof and came to a rest in the roadway. Viard and his passenger, Victoria M. Kitko, 20, of Madera were wearing their seatbelts and not injured as a result of the accident. Viard’s vehicle sustained severe damage and was towed from the scene. Viard was cited for failing to drive at a safe speed.
