The Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library is currently accepting registrations for Spring Things, a five-week story session to be held during April. Children ages 6 months through 5 years are able to participate in special programs held each Tuesday morning or afternoon.
The program begins April 2 with Bingo for Books in honor of Children’s Book Day. Children will play bingo to earn their choice of one of many books donated to the library.
Representatives from Southwest PA Legal Services will be at the library on April 9 to discuss fair housing. All those in attendance will receive a copy of a book provided by the organization.
The annual Pennsylvania One Book, Every Young Child celebration will be held on April 16. The program is sponsored by the local Kiwanis organization. Each participating family will receive a copy of the book The Bus for Us by Suzanne Bloom. Registration is limited for this program.
On April 23, it will feature a celebration of Earth in honor of Earth Day. All stories and activities will be centered on an environmental theme. The special events will conclude on April 30 with a program entitled “Spring Games.” Children will play a variety of outdoor games and activities, weather permitting.
Each program will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 11: 30 a.m. or from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Shaw Public Library advises all those interested in attending the programs to register for each program individually.
A calendar with dates and times for each program is also available at the front desk.
The PA Forward initiative, launched by the Pennsylvania Library Association (PaLA) in 2012, supports the efforts of libraries across the state as leaders in community education. Children will experience at least one of the five literacies as part of the PA Forward | Pennsylvania Libraries initiative each week of the spring story session.
