Police Chief Mark Brooks announced formally to the supervisors that part-time Officer Travis Goodman had submitted his letter of resignation. Brooks said that Goodman had accepted a full-time police officer position in Sandy Township.
“I’d like to say that he is a stellar officer,” said Brooks.
Supervisor Glenn Johnston explained that the two, newly hired part-time officers had applied during the previous application process. They wanted the township to hold their applications in case of future openings. He said the new police officers are Ralph Nezda and Nathan Eckert.
Johnston said the township hired the new officers with its savings in the police budget. He explained that Brooks found ways to utilize part-time officers, which resulted in savings by not using full-time officers.
In addition, he said the township had promoted Brooks from within; however, when balancing the current-year budget, it had assumed the possibility of hiring a police chief from outside the police department. By promoting Brooks, Johnston said there’s one less full-time officer than they had presumed possible.
