Dorothy P. Allender, 80, formerly of DuBois died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Christ the King Manor. Born May 3, 1932 in Weirton, WV, she was the daughter of the late Paul Pappas and Stella (Trilirakis) Pappas Manousakis.
On May 17, 1956, she married Robert S. Allender. He preceded her in death Aug. 3, 2001.
Mrs. Allender grew up in Ambridge and worked at Tygart Valley Glass Plant in Washington. Then, she became a full-time homemaker.
She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in DuBois. She was also baptized Greek Orthodox.
Mrs. Allender enjoyed sewing, cooking and being with her family and friends, as well as being a wife, mother and grandmother
She is survived by a son, Charles Allender and his fiancée, LouAnn Henry of DuBois; a step-sister, Maria Pistiolas and her husband, George of Brunswick, OH; a step-brother, Jerry Pappas and his wife, Pat of Myrtle Beach, SC; two grandchildren, Ashley and Alex Allender; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, George Pappas; a sister, Mary Karolaus; and her step-brother, John Pappas.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home Inc.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Sarah Ott officiating.
Burial will follow in Morningside Cemetery.
