LHU Clearfield to Host Meeting on Free Training for Area Employers

CLEARFIELD— Lock Haven University’s Clearfield campus is hosting an informational meeting on April 4 for area employers who may receive free training for their employees through a state program.

Lock Haven University is one of 30 certified partners in Pennsylvania able to provide training grants to offer businesses and other employers through the Workforce and Economic Development Network of Pennsylvania (WEDnet).

“This is a great opportunity for area employers, especially those who are looking for additional training for their employees but may need some financial assistance,” said Dr. William Curley, director of the Lock Haven University Clearfield campus. “We encourage all qualified employers to attend this upcoming informational meeting to find out more.”

The WEDnet meeting will be from 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. April 4 in Room 100 at Founders Hall on the Clearfield campus along Route 322. The meeting is open to any employer in Clearfield County and the surrounding regions. For more information or to RSVP, please call the Clearfield campus at 814-768-3405.

To obtain free training through WEDnet, employers must be eligible. Requirements include being based in Pennsylvania, or having a significant presence in the state, and not having a high historical turnover rate of more than 40 percent. Point-of-sale retail businesses, gaming establishments, training vendors, employment agencies, government agencies, government-owned facilities, education and nonprofit entities are ineligible.

“At the informational meeting, we will discuss all the criteria and the types of eligible training available to employers through WEDnet,” said Shannon Tyson, Lock Haven University’s Workforce Development Manager. “Many employers may not even know this grant is available to them, and this is the perfect opportunity for them to ask questions and find out more.”

Lock Haven University’s Clearfield campus is a welcoming educational destination for students of all ages. The campus offers a variety of programs ranging from extended education courses up to and including a master’s degree.
