LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP – The Clearfield-based state police are investigating a fatal fire that occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. Thursday on Lawrence Avenue in Lawrence Township.
The fire victim was an unidentified male, and his name is not being released at this time. The victim’s name will be released pending notification of the next of kin.
According to Lawrence Township police, upon arrival the structure was fully engulfed by flames. Police attempted to enter the structure; however, they were unable to do so because of the flames. The victim wasn’t able to escape the fire.
State police said the fire originated in the living room area of the structure; however, the cause remains undetermined at this time. Damage is estimated at approximately $30,000.
Lawrence Township police were assisted at the scene by the Hyde City, Lawrence Township, Grampian and Glen Richey fire departments, the Clearfield Borough police and fire departments, the Curwensville Borough police and fire departments and Curwensville EMS.
Members of the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Detection Unit of Williamsport, Punxsutawney, Clearfield and Ridgway responded to the scene. The Clearfield County Coroner’s Office is also assisting with the investigation.
