State Police Identify Woman Killed in SR 153 Accident

HORTON TOWNSHIP – A 26-year-old Falls Creek woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident at 10:47 a.m. Thursday on state Route 153 in Horton Township, reported the Ridgway-based state police.

State police have identified the woman as Desiree M. Smith, 26, of Falls Creek. She was the passenger of a vehicle operated by Deidre M. Butler, 25, of Brockway, who sustained major injuries in the accident.

According to the accident report, the Butler vehicle was traveling northbound on SR 153. A vehicle operated by Linda C. Jensen, 61, of Warren was traveling southbound. The Butler vehicle crossed into the southbound lane of SR 153.

At that point, Butler’s vehicle struck the guiderail on the west berm and then entered the path of the Jensen vehicle.  The Jensen vehicle struck the rear end area of that driven by Butler.

Butler was ejected from her vehicle. Her passenger, Smith, was partially ejected. Butler was not wearing her seatbelt, while Smith and Jensen were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident, state police said.

Both Butler and Jensen were transported to the DuBois Regional Medical Center. From there Butler was transported to the Altoona Hospital. Smith died as a result of her injuries, state police said.
