Stephen M. Sobol, 77, of Philipsburg died Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Windy Hill Village in Philipsburg.
He was the son of the late Andrew and Pauline (Ballock) Sobol, born May 8, 1935 in Morrisdale. He was preceded in death by Dorothy Jean (Stover) McTigue, his companion of many years. She died Dec. 2, 2011.
Mr. Sobol was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Morrisdale and had served in the U.S. Army from 1958 – 1962. He was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Bald Eagle Lodge #51 and enjoyed vegetable gardening.
He had worked as a drag-line operator in the strip mines for 10 years and then was employed at the Piper plant in Quehanna for the next 15 years. Lastly he worked for the Centre County Transportation Authority as a driver until retiring.
He was a 1954 graduate of the Morris Township High School.
In addition to his parents and companion, Mr. Sobol was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Fenush and two brothers, Joseph and Leo Sobol.
He is survived by a son, Stephen M. McTigue of Philipsburg; two brothers, John Sobol and his wife, Ann of Buffalo, NY and Michael Sobol and his wife, Lovie of Pleasant Hill, RD Philipsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St Agnes Catholic Church in Morrisdale, with the Rev. Robert J. Horgas, celebrant. Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg.
The rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
