CLEARFIELD – Hundreds of Clearfield community members united to support the victims of the North Third Street fire during a benefit dinner that was held Saturday night at the Expo II Building at the Clearfield Driving Park.
Becki Soult of Clearfield organized the benefit dinner, which raised more than $8,700 and collected thousands of dollars worth of donated items. All proceeds will directly benefit the Ethan’s Café/The Angry Bean and Rick Evans Photography, as well as three families that were displaced as a result of the fire.
After the Feb. 9 fire, Soult started organizing the benefit dinner to help her friends, Kim and Thad Durant, who co-owned Ethan’s Café/The Angry Bean. The benefit dinner coincidentally fell on what would have been the third anniversary for The Angry Bean.
“I started planning [the benefit] within two days,” said Soult, who expected approximately 300 – 400 people to be in attendance. “It has been unbelievable and overwhelming community support.”
The benefit dinner featured a 50-50 raffle, a silent auction, a Chinese auction with nearly 100 donated prizes and live entertainment. The Dusty Trout String Band announced during its performance that 50 percent of its merchandise sales would benefit the fire victims.
Soult also said they would be making a donation to the Clearfield fire hall and providing Wal-Mart gift cards to the affected families. She said donations, such as household and clothing items, were being collected for the families.
The benefit dinner was sponsored by Buster’s Sports Bar of Clearfield.
