State Police Investigate Criminal Mischief at Acid Mine Treatment Plant

HORTON TOWNSHIP – The Ridgway-based state police are investigating an incident of criminal mischief at the Brandy Camp Acid Mine Treatment Plant that occurred sometime between 3 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday in Horton Township.

According to the report, someone gained entry to the plant through a gap in the security fence. Once inside they opened a gate that controlled the plant’s incoming groundwater. They closed a gate controlling water exiting from a pond on the property.

When the incoming water level dropped to a predetermined level, an automatic control system shut down the plant to avoid damage to any equipment.  There was neither any monetary damage nor any environmental damage as a result of the incident, state police said.
