Robert W. Carr, 94, of Sleepy Hollow in Rush Township died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg.
He was the son of the late Clyde P. and Cora (Glotfelty) Carr, born Dec. 13, 1918 in McHenry, MD. He married Mary E. Carr on June 3, 1947 in Philipsburg. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2000.
Mr. Carr was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Philipsburg. He was a veteran of the World War II, serving with the Army Air Corps. He was a life member of the AMVETS #0159 in Philipsburg and a live member of the P.O. O Elks, #1173 in Philipsburg. He was a member of the Greater Pennsylvania Regional Council of Carpenters for 45 years, Carpenters Union Local #950. He was an avid reader, and he also enjoyed fishing and traveling.
He and his business partner, Elmer Schnarrs, owned and operated a building contracting company, Schnarrs & Car Contracting, in Philipsburg for more than 35 years.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Carr was preceded in death by an infant son; two sisters, Pearl Desso and Helen Metz; six brothers; Blaine, Boyd, Chester, Marlin, Joseph and Luther Carr.
He is survived by a son, Gerald R. Carr and his wife, Kathleen M. of Philipsburg; a sister, June Minarchic of Philipsburg; a nephew, Maynard Dean Carr of Philipsburg, whom Robert and his wife, Mary raised in their home; and a number of other nieces and nephews.
There will be no public visitation or funeral service. The funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Beezer Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, PA. Burial will be at the Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery.
