Edwin C. “Brush” Grannis, 72, of Ramey, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 in Ramey as a result of a motor vehicle accident.
He was born March 22, 1940 at Philipsburg, a son of the late August and Anna (Zezoney) Grannis Sr.
He was a parishioner of Christ The King Catholic Church, Houtzdale and was a 1957 graduate of the Philipsburg High School.
He retired in 1992 after 30.5 years as a maintenance painter for the Penn State University. He was a member of the Smoke Run Croatian Club and the Morann Citizen Club.
On July 23, 1960 at the former St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Houtzdale, he married Lois Jean Berndt Grannis, who survives of Ramey. He is survived by a daughter, Peg Deibler and her husband, Larry of Shillington; two granddaughters,
Rachel Velez and her husband, Pedro of Wyomissing and Erica Spengler and her husband,
Ryan of Philadelphia; and four great-grandchildren, Dawson Lee Velez, Ethan Daniel Velez, Olivia Rae Velez and Finn Patraic Spengler.
He is also survived by two brothers and a sister, John Grannis and his wife, Shirley of Niagara Falls, NY, Thomas Grannis of Las Vegas, NV and Doris Brenneman of Altoona.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise Gates and a brother, August Grannis Jr.
He loved playing Pinochle and was an avid Pittsburgh Steele fan.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:30 a.m. – 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc., Ramey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christ The King Catholic Church, Houtzdale, with Fr. Stanley J. Swacha as celebrant.
