Domenic Sciamanna, 92, a resident of Greystone of Clearfield and formerly of Curwensville, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013 at Colonial Courtyard surrounded by his family.

Born Sept. 20, 1920 in Camden, NJ, he was the son of Vincenzo and Adelaide (Teodore) Sciamanna. He spent his childhood in Italy, returning to the United States at age 17. 

Mr. Sciamanna apprenticed as a tailor in Italy and spent his entire career in the clothing industry.  He was employed as a clothing designer by Gordon Ford Clothing in Philadelphia for more than 10 years and retired from the Target/Bayer Clothing Group after 20-plus years.

He was a member of St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville. He was a

U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served with the 503rd Parachute Regimental Combat Team in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the National American Legion, International Association of Clothing Designers and the Clearfield VFW.

On Oct. 16, 1948 at Our Lady of Mount Carmal Church in Camden, NJ, he wed the former Lydia Juliet DiGiosaffatto, who survives along with five children, Adele Nurek and her husband, John of Warminister, Vincent Sciamanna and his wife, Anna of DuBois, Annette Muth and her husband, Bill of Curwensville, Lorraine Jasper and her husband, John of Indiana and Domenic Sciamanna Jr. and his wife, Bridget of Elkton, MD.

Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a brother and two sisters, Romeo Sciamanna of Mount Laurel, NJ, Lillianna Colo and Ada DiAndrea, both of Italy and son-in-law, John McCaffrey of Myrtle Beach, SC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Joanne McCaffrey, three sisters, Pierina Pompey, Rosina Romoni and Antonia Sciamanna and a brother, Ferdinando Sciamanna.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church, 306 Walnut St., Curwensville, , with the Rev. Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant. Burial will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville, where the procession will depart from to the church.

The Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Sunday by members of St. Timothy Altar and Rosary Society and a Scripture Vigil Prayer Services by Father Mastrian will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, both at the funeral home.  Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by members of the Clearfield Honor Guard.
