WJAC-TV: $11M Health Center planned for Punxsutawney

PUNXSUTANWEY – The planning is currently under way for an $11 million health center in Jefferson County, where construction is expected to begin within the next few months, according to GantDaily.com news partner WJAC-TV.

A three-story, 45,000-square foot health center will be constructed in the P&N Commerce Park at the intersection of Lever Street and Prushnok Drive, according to the project description. Officials said it will serve as a community health center that delivers much needed health services for underserved populations.

The Primary Health Network of Sharon will own the health center. Officials said PHN will occupy 15,000 square feet of the building, and it plants to co-locate healthcare and social services into the health center. PHN estimates 75,000 people will visit the health center each year.

Brad Lashinsky, economic development director for Jefferson County, said the new health center will create more jobs locally. He said by leasing the health center to other medical-related businesses, it will create an estimated 57 new health care and social service positions and retain an estimated 55 positions over the course of five years.

The total cost of the health center project is estimated at $11,180,600.  Lashinsky hopes that the project is complete by the end of the year.
