DUBOIS – The Sounds of Sondheim return to the Reitz Theater in DuBois. Cultural Resources Inc. and the Reitz Theater Players present the popular musical “A Little Night Music” for six shows that are set for 7 p.m. Feb. 15-16, and Feb. 21-23 and at 2 p.m. Feb. 17.
Sponsored by Hopkins/Hetzel Law Firm and Wise Eyes Optical, the musical features the beloved ballad “Send in the Clowns.” Fredrik (Doug Fye) is very happy in his 11-month marriage to teenage virgin, Anne (Mandi Bell) but is restless.
He visits an old flame, famous actress Desiree Armfeldt (Diane Laubacher). Desiree is thinking of settling down and sets her sights on both Fredrik and her own married lover, Count Carl-Magnus (Jason Phipps).
She gets her mother (Deb Grieve) to invite the Egermans to her country estate for the weekend. But when Carl-Magnus and his wife, Charlotte (Kris Haenes) appear, too, things begin to get farcical.
Director Becky Sensor has a special place in heart for this musical. She said, “I was fortunate enough to perform in the show when I was in college and was hooked as soon as I heard the soundtrack.
“The music is incredibly challenging – but that is what makes it so wonderful. It’s a show full of very funny moments and, at the same time, very heartfelt, even heart-aching moments.”
Starr Hill Winery will be hosting a complimentary wine tasting at the Reitz Theater on opening night, Feb. 15.
Tickets are $12 each and can be purchased at S&T Bank, Liberty Boulevard, Kohlhepp’s True Value Hardware, Rosie’s Book Shoppe, Catherine’s Cache, Stew’s Brew Coffee House and Jim Stellabuto’s Everything Under Foot, all in DuBois.
