DUBOIS – The DuBois City Council voted to purchase the S&T Bank property, including the parking lot and building located at 35 W. Scribner Ave. for $93,000 at its meeting Monday night.
“S&T is closing this branch, and we were approached about purchasing it,” said City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio.
He added the city had the first right of rejection on the S&T bank property, and recent land sale executive sessions were regarding it.
According to Suplizio, DuBois City will also be filing with the state’s Public Utility Commission (PUC) for the first time in seven years, as part of the first step in changing the water rates for non-city customers. He said there is a filing fee with the PUC, which has resulted in the city holding off on updating the water rates. However, he said the council can freely change the water rates and procedures for city customers.
Suplizio said the city hopes to correct the divergent rates and billing practices. He said the goal of the PUC filing is to increase non-city customers to the same rates as city customers, as well as to bring the customers from quarterly to monthly billing.
