Panel Discussion to Focus on ‘Marcellus and the Media’

UNIVERSITY PARK – Penn State Marcellus Center for Outreach and Research is hosting a panel discussion, “Marcellus and the Media,” from 12:15 p.m. – 1:15 p.m. Feb. 20, in Room 117 of the Earth-Engineering Science Building. The discussion is open to the public.

The panelists will be: Andy Maykuth, a reporter at The Philadelphia Inquirer who covers issues related to energy and Marcellus Shale; Susan Phillips, energy reporter at StateImpact Pennsylvania, a joint initiative of WITF, WHYY and NPR to cover Marcellus Shale development; and Denise Bortree, an assistant professor of advertising and public relations in Penn State’s College of Communications.

Discussion topics will include communicating complex science questions to a general audience, presenting balanced stories on shale development in a highly polarized atmosphere and the best way to report on a story that is changing so rapidly.
