PLEASANT GAP – In honor of American Heart Month in February, HealthSouth Nittany Valley Rehabilitation Hospital is kicking off its Heart Failure Support Group. The first meeting will be held on Monday, Feb. 25 from 4 p.m. – 5 p.m., at HealthSouth in Pleasant Gap.

This new group is open to the public, serving patients, family members and caregivers living with, or caring for, a loved one with a heart failure diagnosis. The first session will establish a monthly meeting date and time for future support group gatherings, and a survey will be conducted to determine members’ needs. Those interested can call HealthSouth at 814-359-3421.

HealthSouth’s Heart Failure Program provides comprehensive services designed to get heart failure patients back home and into the community. The Heart Failure Program is Joint Commission Certified, the gold seal of approval in healthcare, and can treat all patients with a heart failure diagnosis. The program provides an individualized plan, targeting each patient’s goals, including intensive therapy, a focus on discharge planning and education.

According to HealthSouth Nittany Valley Chief Executive Officer Susan Hartman, “We take seriously our responsibility to educate and support the community regarding heart failure, a diagnosis that affects many of our rehab patients.  HealthSouth is proud to offer this service to patients and families in our region.”
