Betty A. McGinnis, 91, of DuBois died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013 at the DuBois Nursing Home. Born Oct. 27, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Burt and Isabelle (Calvert) Walls.
On June 25, 1949, she married Jack H. McGinnis. He preceded her in death in 1996.
She was a graduate of the Sandy High School in the class of 1939 and attended the DuBois Business College. She attended floral design school in Detroit, MI and owned and operated Town ‘n Country Garden Center on West Washington Avenue in DuBois for more than 60 years.
She was a member of the West Liberty Baptist Church and a past member of the garden club and the Junior Women’s Club. When her children were younger, she was very active in both the Hubert Street and South Avenue School PTA.
She is survived by her son, Brad McGinnis of DuBois; her daughter, Melanie McGinnis of Treasure Lake; three grandchildren, Tyler Fritz of Treasure Lake and twin brothers, Bram McGinnis of DuBois and Brett McGinnis of New York, NY; several nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth “Bess” McGinnis.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and George Walls, two sisters, Joan Hunt and Dottie Anderson, and an infant sister, Bessie Walls.
The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.
A private funeral service will be held.
Burial will follow in Morningside Cemetery
