UNIVERSITY PARK – In compliance with the “Timely Notice” provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Police and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, the Penn State University police are giving notice of a disturbing act of violence reported to have occurred in the East Halls Residence Complex, on the University Park.
Police announced late Wednesday that a reported rape/sexual assault, which constituted a forcible sexual offense, was reported to have occurred in the East Halls on Dec. 1, 2012. The victim, a student, reported that sometime during the overnight hours of Dec. 1, 2012, they were sexually assaulted by another student known to them.
Police said it can be assumed that conditions continue to exist that may pose a threat to members and guests of the University community. Police said it is the duty of the institution to warn of possible “dangerous conditions” on or near the campus and at affiliate organizations off campus; an “affirmative duty” exists to warn persons associated with this University of possible peril at the hands of some third party or parties.
University Police advise:
— Do not walk alone. Please call 814-865-WALK, for a free security escort.
— Report suspicious behavior to University Police immediately.
— If you feel you are in an unsafe environment, get to a safe place immediately and call for help.
