CLEARFIELD – State Rep. Tommy Sankey (R-Clearfield) is inviting anyone with an interest in or questions about the future of Pennsylvania’s coal industry to attend his public forum on Friday, Feb. 1, beginning at 2 p.m., in the multipurpose room of Lock Haven University’s Clearfield campus, located at 201 University Dr., Clearfield.

“We live in the fourth leading coal producing state in the country and Pennsylvania’s mining industry is a major source of employment and tax revenue,” Sankey said. “But coal’s reputation is being tarnished largely by the federal government, and I’m offering the public an opportunity to get the facts about a naturally-occurring mineral that allows Pennsylvania to be one of the largest exporters of electric power in the United States.”

Representatives from GenOn/NRG’s Shawville facility, as well as a number of coal companies from around the region, will be in attendance at the meeting. State Reps. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk) and Jeff Pyle (R-Armstrong) will offer a legislative perspective on the subject.

“Seating availability is on a first-come, first-served basis, as the room has a capacity of approximately 100 people,” added Sankey. “I am asking anyone planning to attend to please call my Osceola Mills office at 814-339-6544 to reserve your space.”

Questions about this or any other legislative topic may be directed to Sankey via email at Tsankey@pahousegop.com or through his Facebook page at www.facebook.com/RepSankey.
