Dominic “Peach” Garito, 81, of Clearfield died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 at the Altoona Regional Medical Center. He was born Feb. 14, 1931, a son of the late Philip and Mae (Milliron) Garito.
Mr. Garito retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in December of 1991. Previously, he had been employed at the former Clearfield Clay and the former Harbison Walker Refractories, Clearfield.
He attended the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Clearfield. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Marie V. (Shaw) Garito, whom he wed March 8, 1952 at the St. John Lutheran Church, Clearfield; four children, Phil Garito and his wife, Lynne; Dave Garito and his wife, Bonnie; Diane Tyler and her husband, Rick and Chris Garito and his wife, Robin; 11 grandchildren, Philip, Lindsay, James, David, Michael, Ricky, Chris, Sara, Nicole, Dominic and Joshua; six great-grandchildren; four sisters and a brother, Gussie Shugarts, Mary Shaw, Louise Murray, Jeannette Ogden and James Garito; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Fannie Garito; and a sister and two brothers, Sarah Brunner, Joseph W. and Jack Garito.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, with the Rev. Mark S. Brower officiating. Burial will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 12 p.m. until the hour of services Thursday at the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church General Fund, 1010 Dorey St., Clearfield or to the American Lung Association, 3001 Gettysburg Rd., Camp Hill, PA 17011.
