Chester A. “Chet” Ogden, 89, of Clearfield died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at the Clearfield Colonial Courtyard. He was born Jan. 9, 1924, to the late Willard J. and Emma L. (Temple) Ogden.

Mr. Ogden was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force and served in World War II. He served two tours of duty as a technical sergeant and as an aerial gunner on a B-24 Liberator from 1943 until 1945.

During his service to his country, he was awarded the Air Medal with four bronze stars, a Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle East Medal with one silver and two bronze stars and the Unit Citation.

Mr. Ogden attended the Clearfield schools. He was owner and operator of Coal Hill Contracting, a construction and coal producing company, from 1970 to 1982.

Mr. Ogden’s favorite past time was constructing fire trails, as well as ponds and reservoirs. He was able to supply many neighbors with needed fresh water during dry summers.

He attended the Clearfield Christian and Missionary Church.

Mr. Ogden was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

He is survived by a son, Michael L. Ogden and his companion, Jodie L. Ganoe, of Clearfield and a daughter, Cindy Walker and her husband, Jim of Havlock, NC: five grandchildren, Jennifer Walker, Ross Walker, Stephen Walker, Dorothy “Dori” Williams and her husband, Lee; great –grandchildren, Onnie Williams and Olivia Williams and Justin Ogden and his wife, Amy; his companion, Pauline Dixon of Clearfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Ogden was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Rhue Ogden and Rex Ogden and an infant brother, Grant Ogden.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, 312 E. Locust St., Clearfield, with the Rev. John F. White officiating.

Burial will be in Crown Crest Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded by the Clearfield American Legion Post #6 and VFW Post #1785 Honor Guard.

Friends will be received from 3 p.m. until the hour of the services Saturday at the funeral home.
