CLEARFIELD – PennDOT advises motorists to be ready for winter travel today through Monday.
In many locations, snow began to fall earlier today and is expected to last through tonight. Some snow may occur tomorrow and a mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain is forecast from late Sunday night through the day Monday.
Forecasts show the potential for this challenging weather throughout PennDOT District 2. This region includes Cameron, Clearfield, Clinton, Centre, Elk, Juniata, McKean, Mifflin and Potter counties.
During a winter storm, PennDOT’s primary focus is on interstates and expressways. Secondary roads are serviced next, as these serve as detours and alternate routes. Other numbered routes are then treated.
PennDOT maintains a schedule to ensure each type of road receives attention, but motorists are reminded that snow accumulations could be present on some routes as plow trucks cycle through their routes.

When traveling during a winter storm, drivers should adjust their speed to accommodate wet, slushy or snow-covered roads. Winter driving conditions require that motorists allow for a greater following distance between vehicles.
An emergency kit is recommended in all vehicles through the winter months. Kits should include non-perishable food, water, first-aid supplies, warm clothes, and a blanket and small snow shovel.
