Wozniak Applauds Local DEP Mine Reclamation Projects

HARRISBURG – State Sen. John Wozniak has applauded two recently-under way mine reclamation projects contracted out by the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

“It is imperative that we continue to take steps to protect and preserve our environment – and reclaiming abandoned mines is one important way we can enhance our water quality and improve our natural resources,” Wozniak said. “I applaud the DEP for their continued steps to fix the problems and preserve the environment for future generations.”

Wozniak said that work on the two Abandoned Mine Reclamation Projects – located in Cooper Township in Clearfield County; and in Susquehanna Township and Northern Cambria Borough in Cambria County – began on Jan. 1.

The Clearfield County abandoned mine project, contracted to Earthmovers Unlimited of Kylertown, is scheduled to finish in July of 2014. The abandoned mine reclamation project in Cambria County, contracted to Morgan’s Excavating of Mount Union, is schedule to be completed in February of 2014.

The total cost of the contracts for both projects exceeds $1.2 million.
