PA Heartland Chapter Actively Recruiting Volunteers to Greet and Assist Donors
ST. MARYS – Every two seconds, one person in the United States needs blood. The American Red Cross aims to meet this need, as it supplies nearly half of the nation’s blood supply. However, the Red Cross can only perform this work with a vast, dedicated network of volunteers to support and staff the organization’s blood drives throughout the country.
With blood services volunteer numbers at an all-time low, the local Red Cross PA Heartland Chapter – serving Cameron, Clearfield, Elk and Jefferson counties – is actively recruiting volunteers to serve at community blood drives. The Red Cross encourages interested residents to become a part of the team.
The chapter is in need of individuals to fill the following roles throughout the area. Specifically, the chapter is looking for blood volunteers to service the St. Marys’ office, located at 808 S. Michael St. in St. Marys.
- Blood Services Volunteer-Greeter: Greeters are the face of the Red Cross to the blood donor. They welcome donors and guide them through the donation registration process by providing instruction, reading material and customer service. These volunteers have the opportunity to positively impact the donor’s experience.
- Blood Services Volunteer-Canteen: Canteen volunteers are vital to the donor’s overall donation experience. They serve refreshments, present recognition and promotional items, encourage future donation appointments, alert staff when a donor is not feeling well and foster a positive environment.
As a non-profit organization, the Red Cross relies on the steadfast volunteer network to carry out its humanitarian mission-to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies-throughout the area. Volunteers constitute for more than 96 percent of the Red Cross workforce.
The organization strives to place interested residents in appropriate volunteer roles based on their skills, interests and experience.
