Stroemel to lead U.S. women’s hockey at World University Games

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State women’s hockey director of operations and video coach Mo Stroemel will lead the 2013 U.S. Women’s National University Team at the 2013 World University Games in Italy. Stroemel was also in charge of the inaugural 2011 team that placed fourth in Turkey.

The team, comprised of ACHA players, will compete at the tournament in Trentino, Italy, scheduled for Dec. 11-21. Stroemel has been instrumental in the success of hockey at Penn State, serving as an assistant coach on the men’s club team from 2004-07 and the head coach of the women’s club team from 2007-11. In all, Stroemel has been connected to Penn State hockey since 1994 in various capacities including coaching Penn State’s ACHA Division II men’s team from 1996-2004.

Stroemel will be assisted by Kristen Wright of the Colorado women’s club team and Rob Blackburn of the Michigan women’s club team. Stroemel’s 2011 squad featured current Nittany Lion assistant captain Lindsay Reihl (Cheshire, Conn.) and current equipment manager Graham Pepperman.

The men’s tournament will take place at the same time as fellow State College resident Scott Balboni coaches. Balboni was the head coach for the Penn State men’s club team from 2006-11.
