HARRISBURG – In a press release, State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Clearfield County, today said he will not seek re-election.
“After much thought and consideration, I have decided not to seek re-election to the post where I have been honored to serve the interests of the great people of Clearfield County,” said the last remaining World War II-era veteran in the state House of Representatives.
“I will forever treasure the friendships — Democratic and Republican – forged over the last 38 years,” George said. The friendships and my family are the richest of blessings, and I’ve been fortunate to be with you for so many notable events, including the births of children and grandchildren, weddings and funerals.

Curwensville’s Keller Claims Third D9-AA Mat Title

CLARION – Senior Jake Keller moved into a very select group of Curwensville Area High School wrestlers by earning his third District 9 Class AA championship in Clarion University’s Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium Saturday.
The finals proved to be anticlimactic for the standout, No. 1-seeded 132-pounder, though.
Because of a rib injury, Garrett Hildebrand of Redbank Valley defaulted to Keller, who was in serious contention for the Outstanding Wrestler Award after posting his third consecutive first-period fall in the semifinals.

The Environmental Protection Agency issued the first-ever national air pollution regulations for fracking on Wednesday. First proposed in July 2011, the final rules have been welcomed by environmental groups as a much-needed initial move in reducing pollution and protecting public health from the toxic chemicals involved in the oil and natural gas drilling process. But many cautioned it was just a first step.

BELLEFONTE – Court documents obtained by 6News Tuesday afternoon show that former wide receiver coach Mike McQueary intends to file a civil lawsuit against Penn State University, nearly seven months after he was placed on administrative leave in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.
The notice, filed inside the Centre County courthouse in Bellefonte, indicates that McQueary intends to sue for monetary damages outside arbitration limits for an employment dispute.

CLEARFIELD – Officials, members of the business community, plant employees and the general public turned out to celebrate Pennsylvania Grain Processing’s purchase of the former Bionol site in Clearfield. The company held a ribbon cutting on Thursday at the site in East End in Clearfield Borough. Plant employees took those in attendance on a short walking tour of the production facility, answering questions and explaining the process along the way.

BREAKING NEWS: Woodland Man Charged with Possessing Child Pornography

CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. announced today that child pornography charges were filed against a Woodland man. He identified the defendant as Reed Finnigan, 60, of Shawville Highway, Woodland.
On July 27, Trooper Kimberly Ronan of the Pennsylvania State Police, Clearfield barracks, filed a criminal complaint, charging Reed with sexual abuse of children- possession of child pornography, unlawful contact with a minor, obscene and other sexual materials and invasion of privacy.

Accuweather: Isaac, Not Another Katrina, But Still Dangerous

STATE COLLEGE – AccuWeather.com reports that while from a core meteorological standpoint Isaac will not be another Katrina in terms of intensity, it’s still categorized as a dangerous storm.
Isaac is forecast by AccuWeather.com to make landfall as a hurricane in Louisiana and will bring the risk of storm surge flooding, inland flooding, damaging wind, tornadoes and beach erosion to part of the central Gulf Coast area.

Woman Jumps in River after Argument with Boyfriend

CLEARFIELD – A woman jumped into the Susquehanna River near East Walnut Street after allegedly engaging in a verbal domestic dispute with her boyfriend shortly before 2 a.m. this morning.
Clearfield Borough police located the woman lying in several feet of water and holding onto a rock. Responding officers entered the water and pulled her to safety.

ARC Asks For Increased Support as Response Continues in Western PA
DUBOIS – Thousands of people across nine states took refuge from Hurricane Sandy in American Red Cross shelters Sunday night as the massive storm neared the East Coast.
As Sandy bears down, the ARC relief effort forges ahead. Thus far, the organization has provided 3,200 people with shelter, deployed more than 1,300 disaster workers and prepared nearly 150 emergency response vehicles with relief supplies.

Pittsburgh, PA, United States (4E) – Zoo officials disclosed Monday that the two-year-old boy, who tumbled down into the cage of a Pennsylvania zoo’s African wild dog exhibit Sunday morning did not die from the fall and had been fatally mauled.
According to zoo officials, the autopsy result revealed that the fall from the railing was not the cause of Maddox Derkosh’s death, the assault by the pack of eleven dogs killed the boy.
