Joseph Austin Garman, 88, of DuBois died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center. Born March 24, 1924 in Bellwood, he was the son of the late Max and Pearl (Ameigh) Garman.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was a master electrician and sign maker for many years.
He was married to Doris Eleanor (Miller) Garman. They were married for 60 years. She preceded him in death Nov. 18, 2008.
As a member of the Christian Missionary & Alliance Church in DuBois, he was very active in their mission conferences. He enjoyed working on his farm, where he and his wife hosted many family and church events.
He is survived by his two sons, David Garman and his wife, Donna of Stuyvesant, NY and Joseph “Skip” Garman and his wife, Pam of Savannah, GA; two daughters, Mrs. Nathan (Kathy) Ramsey of DuBois and Mrs. James (Sue) Saver of Emlenton; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Smith.
Friends will be received from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home and from 12 p.m. until the hour of services Monday at the Christian Missionary & Alliance Church.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Christian Missionary & Alliance Church with Pastor Dick Whitaker and Pastor Tim Connor officiating.
Full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard at the church.
Burial will be in Baughman Cemetery in Tyrone.
