No injuries were reported after a single-vehicle accident at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday on the Bennetts Valley Highway in Huston Township. John Hackett Jr., 55, of St. Marys was traveling northbound when an elk entered the roadway from the east berm. The elk was in the direct path of the Hackett vehicle. Hackett applied his brakes but wasn’t able to stop. The Hackett vehicle struck the elk, and after impact, he brought his vehicle to a controlled stop on the east berm. Neither Hackett nor his passenger, Julia R. Hackett, 54, of St. Marys was injured. Both were wearing their seatbelts.
