Elverta B. Winters, 97 of Philipsburg, formerly of New Castle, RD Osceola Mills, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 at the Tyrone Hospital in Tyrone.

She was the daughter of the late Jesse and Sara (Davis) Yarger born March 14, 1915 in Woodward Township. She married Ward H. Winters on April 1, 1936 in West Decatur. He preceded her in death May 8, 2003.

Mrs. Winters was a member of the former New Castle United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was retired from Charles Navasky & Co. in Osceola Mills. She was a 1954 graduate of the former Houtzdale High School in the class of 1934.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Winters was preceded in death by four sisters, Iva Yarger, Evelyn Benny, Eleanor Mancini and Betty Smith and three brothers, Wade Yarger, Clark Yarger and Jesse Lee Yarger.

She is survived by three sons, M. Dean Winters of Chester Hill; Kenneth W. Winters and his wife, Kay of Hughesville, MD; and Harlan L. Winters and his wife, Judy of New Castle, Osceola Mills; a sister, Florence Thompson of Zephyrhills, FL; two brothers, Eugene Yarger and his wife, Patricia of Philipsburg and Duane Yarger and his wife, Wilma of Centre Hall; six grandchildren, Harlan L. Winters Jr., Jeffrey S. Winters, Beth A. Thomas, M. Todd Winters, Cynthia M. Eby and Christopher D. Winters; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the New Castle Community Church in New Castle RD, Osceola Mills, with Pastor Joseph Phillips officiating. Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Brisbin.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the Heath Funeral Home in Osceola Mills and from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service Saturday at the church.
