New Marsh Creek Bridge will Open Today

Detour will be lifted this afternoon

MILESBURG – Work to replace a structurally deficient bridge on Route 1002, Marsh Creek, will end this afternoon and PennDOT will open the new bridge to traffic. The bridge spans Marsh Creek in Liberty Township, about two miles northwest of the village of Blanchard, Centre County.

The old, open grate bridge has been replaced with a new, wider, box beam structure that gives motorists a safer, more efficient ride. Replacing the bridge removes it from Centre County’s list of structurally deficient bridges.

Once the new bridge is open PennDOT will remove the detour that’s been in place since May. PennDOT expects to have the new bridge open and the detour lifted by early afternoon, Wednesday.

Overall work has included bridge replacement, construction and paving of bridge approach and roadway, pipe installation, guide rail installation, and miscellaneous items. The bridge carries average daily traffic of 300 vehicles.

Nestlerode Contracting Company Inc. of Lock Haven was the contractor on this $1 million project.
