Gunman Jailed after Armed Standoff with Police

CLEARFIELD – A gunman fired five shots around 4:45 a.m. this morning before surrendering to police after a nearly two-hour armed standoff within a mobile home park at 77 Spruce Grove Ln., according to media reports.

Police have identified the gunman as Peter Angus Cain Jr., 43, of Clearfield. Cain allegedly threatened to shoot anyone who attempted to enter the residence. The woman met police upon their arrival, and they safely removed her from the scene. Police immediately began evacuating the neighboring mobile homes.

While police evacuated the mobile homes, Cain fired five shots, which were aimed in the direction of police, according to media reports. No one was injured during the standoff.

Cain has been charged with aggravated assault; assault of law enforcement officer; simple assault; terroristic threats; discharge of firearm into occupied structure; recklessly endangering another person; and criminal mischief.

He was arraigned this morning by Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland. His bail has been set at $100,000 monetary. Cain’s preliminary hearing has been set for 12 p.m. Nov. 21 before Ireland at the Clearfield County Jail, according to court documents.
